Is your life fun? Are you having enough fun in your life? Do you have enough "free time" to do the things you want to do?
If you answered 'no' to those questions, you're not alone. Today's world can be stressful and hectic. This, along with the need to generate sufficient income to meet the necessities of life, can make it difficult to have enough time to spend doing the things you really want to do - and “have fun”.
Let me ask you a few additional questions:
First, is having fun part of your Definition of Happiness? (If you don’t know your personal Definition of Happiness, click on the "Get Instant Access" button below to find out).
Is your life fun?
Is what you do "for a living" fun to you?
Do you need more fun or free-time in your life?
Are you a "fun" person?
What is “fun” anyway?
Well, I probably don’t need to define fun, because everyone really knows the meaning of the word. But, just to provide a dictionary definition of the word, here it is:
Fun: noun – enjoyment, amusement, or lighthearted pleasure.
Synonyms: enjoyment, entertainment, amusement, pleasure; recreation, diversion, leisure, relaxation; a good time, a great time; informal rest and recreation.
Wikipedia also says this: Fun is the enjoyment of pleasure, particularly in leisure activities. Fun is an experience - short-term, often unexpected, informal, not cerebral and generally purposeless.
In
the context of happiness, the questions to ask yourself regarding
"fun" are:
As the definition above indicates, fun is all about pleasure. So, since all human beings are constantly striving to decrease pain and increase pleasure in life, fun is an essential ingredient to a truly happy life. We are really “born” to have fun. Think about it…
Children
know how to have fun...
From the moment we are born, we have fun.
Not only that, just about everything is “fun” for children. Children have fun doing the simplest
things. Do you remember when you were a kid? What was
fun for you then? Can you be a bit more "child-like" to make your
life more fun and happy?
Certainly life is not "all fun and games". But, having fun can be
(and probably should be) a part of your life (possibly a big part of your
life). It can also be a great stress management tool.
Personally, I love to have fun - and while it's not technically part of my definition of happiness, it is an important part of my life. So, what about you? Would having more fun make your life happier? If so, what would be fun for you and, importantly, what is your plan for having more fun in your life?
Some things people do for fun:
...and the list goes on and on.
The great thing is, everyone's perception of what's fun can be different. And, really, there are no rules (unless, obviously, it is illegal, unethical, or immoral).
Sometimes (maybe many times) it requires money to increase the level of fun and free time in your life. The ultimate example of this is to enjoy complete financial freedom - which allows you to do whatever you want, whenever you want, without having to "work" (unless you want to - because it's "fun"). But, that's a topic for a different section of BeHappy101.com. For now, think about where fun fits in your life. Contemplate whether you need to be having more fun in your life, or whether you need to be a more "fun person". Consider being more "child-like" and playful.
Then, as part of the
process for creating your life's Happiness Plan, make sure to add "fun" into your plan - especially if it's important to your overall happiness. We'll talk more about this in other parts of this site.
